ready for my mini-vacation
05.28.04 (7:18 am) [edit]
It's finally Friday morning and I can't wait to get out of here. We are going to the lake with some friends for a long weekend and I am so ready to leave. Fortunately I don't have to work all day today. I had to be here to wait for the computer guy to come run a new line in our network and as soon as he is finished so am I. He was supposed to be here at 8:00 and it is now 8:15 and still no sign of him. I was hoping he would get in here and get things done quickly! I can't wait to get down to the lake and start enjoying nature. I think it will actually be nice to get away from the computer for a few days!
help, help
05.27.04 (9:39 am) [edit]
So I have declared today Pearl Jam listening day at my office. I pulled up my PJ playlist on MusicMatch and have been listening to it all morning. Although I love PJ, I have never been a huge fan of the Riot Act album. I listen to it occasionally, but its just not in heavy rotation on my cd player. Today, as I was listening to my PJ mixed playlist, the song "Help, Help" came on and really caught my attention. I'm not sure why but for some reason it just spoke to me this morning.
Help, Help-Pearl Jam
Tell me what I wanna hear.
This shits too good to be true.
My dear.
Tell me lies. Tell me lies, tell me. Tell me lies, tell me.
Help me. (x6)
Storybook keeps from hurting me.
You see.
Shell of the man from the sea.
Tell me lies. Tell me lies, tell me. Tell me lies, tell me.
Tell me why. Tell me why, tell me. Tell me why, tell me.
Tell me lies. Tell me lies, tell me. Tell me lies, tell me.
Help me. (x6)
Reservoir of hate and fear.
Invisible in repair.
A hundred thieves cast a spell.
This is hell.
Help me. (x6)
The man they call my enemy.
I've seen his eyes he looks just like me, a mirror.
The more you read, we've been deceived everyday it becomes clearer.
Clearer. Clearer. Clearer.
Not my enemy. No, not my enemy.
Don't speak for me. No, not my enemy.
In unrelated news, my busband had a dream lastnight that I died. He said it was so real that when he woke up he had to check and see if I was still there. It kinda leaves me with an uneasy feeling today!

fuzzy...
05.26.04 (8:39 am) [edit]
My doc put me on some new medicine to help me sleep better and relieve some of the anxiety I have been feeling lately. I took it lastnight around 9:00 and I am still feeling extremely fuzzy-headed. I'm having a really hard time focusing on anything and I just want to go crawl back in my nice warm bed. I sure hope that the fuzziness levels off after a few days cause I really can't work like this!
feeling sluggish...
05.25.04 (4:51 pm) [edit]
I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and tired as hell. I amazed myself by making it through work without falling asleep at my desk. After work, I came home and pretty much passed out on the couch until hubby came in and told me to get my ass in bed. I basically slept for 12 hours straight, only to wake up feeling just as tired today. I must have looked pretty bad, cause my boss came in around 11:00 and told me to go home. When I got home, I decided to flip my computer on and it said that one of my hard drives had failed (could this day get any better?). Fortunately, I was able to recover all but one folder of data. I lost a few pictures, but everything else is still there. Went to the doctor, then the pharmacy and spent $120 dollars on prescriptions (with insurance!). I'm finally back home and exhausted. I have so much to do and very little energy to do it with. So, just in case anyone was wondering where I've been the last couple days (yeah, right!) there's my explanation.
wishing...
05.24.04 (9:55 am) [edit]
Hubby and I were talking lastnight about how nice it would be to have some "normal" friends. It seems like everyone that we hang out with just have so many problems in their lives. We feel very "normal" next to them. I know everyone has problems, but ours just seem so small compared to our friends. We are constantly worrying about them and trying to figure out ways that we can help them out. Sometimes it feels like there is such a negative vibe coming from them. As much as I love and care about them, I just wish I had someone to hang out with that left me with a happy, content feeling rather than always leaving with feelings of despair and helplessness.
while tblog was down....
05.21.04 (9:53 am) [edit]
Since I couldn't access tblog for a few days, I was writing in my other blog, which is really more of a personal journal. These are the things I would have normally written here, so I'm gonna go ahead and ad them in.

I am showing massive restraint today. We went to the Musician's Friend Clearance Center Lastnight and they had a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar for only $749. That is an great price. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, just an overstock item. My husband told me I could buy it if I wanted to as my Anniversary/Christmas/Bir thday present. It is so tempting. I didn't have a credit card with me, so I had to go home and think about it overnight. Now I'm thinking, why do I need another guitar? I just bought my Epiphone a few months ago. It is a good guitar. It serves my needs for right now, while I'm learning. But I've been dreaming of a Gibson for so long. I settled with the Epiphone cause it was a good deal. I'm really struggling with this. I know that I shouldn't buy the guitar, but I want it so badly! I've been working so hard to clear up my finances and pay off my debts, but when something like this comes along I really have a hard time saying no. I just keep telling myself that in a couple years, when I have had time to take care of some of my debt, I will find another good deal and be able to buy the guitar I want. I just don't want to regret passing this up, but at the same time, I don't want to regret buying it either.

My husband suggested lastnight that we think about providing foster care. I have to say that I was rather shocked that he mentioned it. It is something that I have been interested in doing for a long time, although, at the same time, it is a little scary to think about. I mean, I've never been a parent before. I have worked in a care-giving setting, but at the end of the day you just leave and go home. With foster care, you can't get away from it, you just have to deal 24/7. I'm wondering if I am ready for this. I think I am. I know I would have great support from my family and friends. I am really excited about this possibility. I know there is a long process for approval and some training we would have to go through, but if we started now, we could possibly be fostering by the end of the year. I've been doing some reading on it today and I'm very anxious to discuss it with my husband and see what he says after he has had more time to think about it. I think we are in a good position to do it right now. We are not extremely wealthy or anything, but we are doing alright financially. We live in a house where we already have an extra bedroom set up that would be perfect for a kid. This may be a very exciting and rewarding new chapter in my life. I can't wait to see what happens!

So, I wrote an e-mail to a very old friend, well friends actually, yesterday. I haven't talked to them in a very long time....since 1999. I haven't talked to them since I left my ex-husband. That has been a good 4 1/2, almost 5 years now. Needless to say I am a little nervous to hear back from them. It's not that they did anything wrong. When my ex-husband and I separated, he went to them. He lived with them for several months while trying to get on his feet. I don't know what he told them during that time. I don't know what they think of me. I'm sure everything he told them was very one-sided. They were such good friends to us when we were a couple. He still stays in contact with them, but I have not. I guess in a way I felt betrayed by them, although I'm not sure why. As I said before, they never did anything to me. I'm not really sure what I am expecting from the e-mail. I would like to get back in contact with them, but at the same time it feels very weird. I'm also afraid that I will be interfering with my ex-husband's life by getting back in contact with them. I don't want to do that. I've caused him enough grief in his life. He doesn't need any more. I'm feeling so nervous and anxious.......

I'm really having a hard time working today. It is absolutely beautiful outside and I just want to be out in the sun. I really need to find a place to take the dog for walks. Somewhere with a nice trail. I need the exercise and he does too. I'm just not sure where to go. A lady at work suggested a place not too far from my house, but I'm not exactly sure where it is. It would be great to just go for a walk or jog with him and relax....and get a bit of a workout at the same time!
I've been thinking a lot today about getting more into web design. I worked on my new website this weekend and really enjoyed it. I wish I had some training so I could get a real job doing web design. Why not do what you love, you know? Maybe it is time that I get back into school. Maybe this is what I really need to do. It seems to be one of the most enjoyable things in my life right now, I just get frustrated because I don't have the knowledge to do what I want to do with it. The creativity is there, I just don't have the technical knowledge. I really think I should look into school again. I know it is expensive, but I think it would be worth it in the end. I just can't think of any other job that I would rather do. I'll have to give this some serious thought in the next few weeks...maybe start researching some schools. I wish I would have known I liked this so much when I was younger so I could have taken the right classes in college!

05.21.04 (8:35 am) [edit]
aaahhhhh.....Friday is finally here. It's been a long and busy week and I am so ready for the weekend to begin. No big plans this weekend (so far) other than going to a jewelry party tonight with a friend.
Went to the Grand Emporium lastnight to listen to some bands. Banzai Magazine is putting on a Rock & Metal Fest, spanning over several nights and several clubs. Each night they have a huge lineup of local bands. Out of the 11 bands that played lastnight, there were maybe 3 that didn't massively suck. 2 out of the 3 that didn't massively suck were "just ok" and the other one was good. It was kinda disappointing.
One of the 11 bands was my friends' band, Flexible Bullit. This was their first show with the new guitarist and they pulled it off really well. There were some technical difficulties, but overall the whole thing went pretty well. I was pretty impressed with the new guitarist. I've seen him play at practices over the last couple months, but he absolutely comes to life on stage. I couldn't believe how much energy he had. Their sound is much heavier than before, which I'm not sure I really like, but they still sounded great. It was a fun night. I enjoyed hanging out with the guys. But now I'm totally dragging today!

need some color
05.17.04 (11:59 am) [edit]
I just can't get into the whole work thing today. I want another day to spend out in my yard enjoying the sun. I hate being closed up in this office. I hate the drab lighting, the pale colors. I'm thinking maybe I need to find some bright colored pictures to hang on the walls or something. Its amazing how much color can affect a person's mood. I've been taking a lot of nature pictures lately. I have lots of pictures of flowers that I've found around my yard. Maybe I could blow some of them up and frame them. If I'm going to stay here, I need something to make it more interesting.
broken
05.17.04 (9:43 am) [edit]
I saw the video for Seether's "Broken" featuring Amy Lee this weekend. She has such an amazing voice. I am so captivated by it. I was flipping channels when I ran across it and couldn't change the channel until the song was over.
Broken-Seether featuring Amy Lee
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There’s so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away

velvet revolver
05.15.04 (6:19 pm) [edit]
So, the Velvet Revolver show was amazing lastnight. Silvertide, a band who is on their way up, opened the show. They played a pretty good set, although it was basically the same as we saw them play with Shinedown a month or so ago. The guys in Silvertide are just full of energy and the guitarist is simply amazing. He's definitely a very talented guy. The break between bands was extremely long...almost an hour...and the crowd was getting rather restless. A kid a couple rows ahead of us decided to entertain us by puking all over the place. Finally Velvet Revolver came out on stage. They played for almost an hour, playing mostly new VR stuff with some STP and GNR songs mixed in, then left the stage. They came back out for an encore. Then they left and came back out for a second encore. Slash put on his famous top hat and started with an incredible rendition of Mr. Brownstone. A couple more songs and the show was over. It finished up pretty early, but overall was a really great show!
bands I've seen play live
05.13.04 (11:41 am) [edit]
Ok, so I said the other day that I would post my list of bands I have seen live. I've been working on it for a couple days and have been adding to it as I remember each band. I'm sure I have left off a few opening bands and maybe a few from festival-type shows that I may have seen, but I think this is pretty much the list. I also included Velvet Revolver. I haven't seen them yet, but I'll be seeing them tomorrow night so I figured I might as well add them on. The list does not include all of the local bands I've seen. I'm not sure I could even remember all of those. I would hate to know how much money I have spent going to all these shows!

feeling domestic
05.13.04 (11:22 am) [edit]
Lastnight my mom brought my Grandma over to see my house and to have dinner. I rushed home after work and immediately started cooking. I made a pork jambalaya, potato salad (one of Gma's favorites), green beans, and cut some fresh strawberries. I was cooking & cleaning from 5:30 until almost 7:30. By the time we finally sat down to eat I was wiped out! Then I still had to clean up after dinner. Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I hate to cook. But, I have to say that I actually kinda enjoyed it lastnight. I guess I don't mind it as much when I'm cooking for more than one or two people. I never cook just for myself. I occasionally cook for the hubby. Very rarely do I ever get a chance to cook for anyone else. I guess I enjoy it more when there are other people to eat and compliment me on my efforts.

05.12.04 (9:05 am) [edit]
Today is the anniversary of the day I met my husband three years ago. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that things would turn out the way they have. You see, it was purely coincidental the way we met in the first place. I was suppposed to be going to visit my grandparents with my mom and sister. However, a friend of mine was graduating from college the same day and had invited me over for a little graduation party, so I stayed home and opted to go to that instead. After her party, we decided to go out and do some partying of our own. We went downtown and hit a couple of clubs and ended up at Have A Nice Day Cafe, one of our favorite dance spots. We were all out on the dance floor goofing around and having a great time when I spotted this huge, muscley guy a couple feet away dancing by himself. I caught his eye a couple times, but didn't think any more about it. Soon, my friend that I was dancing with left to go to the ladies room, so I moved over near my other friends. Before I knew it, my friend (purposely) bumped me into the big muscley guy! I was SO embarrassed! I know my face had to have been bright red. While I was stumbling, trying to apologize, he simply said "It's ok, I'll dance with you." So we started dancing and talking, and we totally hit it off. After a while, my friends were ready to move on to another club, and he couldn't find the friend that he had come with so he decided to come along with us. We found a table where we sat and talked the rest of the night. Towards the end of the night, they played a slow song and he asked me to dance. We danced to a few songs and then my friends came up to me and were ready to leave. We said our goodbyes and he told me that we would probably never see each other again (he was from Louisiana and only in town for a couple months on a job). I turned to him and said that he would see me again if he would get my number and give me a call. So, I gave him my number and a sweet little goodbye kiss and never expected to see him again. It took him a week to call. Then we spoke on the phone every night that week before making plans to get together. From then on we were pretty much inseparable. We dated all summer, and saw each other every day. He got transferred to a job a few hours away, so we took turns driving to see each other on the weekends. In August he got laid off from his job. He drove back down to Louisiana for a week, packed his stuff and moved in with me. We got married the following June and have been happy ever since!
live music
05.11.04 (3:50 pm) [edit]
One of my favorite things to do is to go to concerts. I am a huge music fan, and I absolutely love to see bands play live. There's just something about it. I was thinking today about all of the bands I've seen play live. I'm trying to make a list, but I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few. Anyway, I was trying to decide which one has been the best and I just can't pick one. So, I thought I would list out my top 5 favorite concerts that I have been to. What are your favorite live bands? I would love to hear from some of you. Here is my current top 5 list.
By the way, this all came from the fact that I am majorly bummed out that I am not going to go see Godsmack tonight (also playing with Metallica) or The Offspring tomorrow. Instead I will be at home cleaning my house and having dinner with my Grandma.
5. Dixie Chicks
4. Audioslave
3. Alabama
2. Pearl Jam
1. Dave Matthews Band

May 10th is kind of a symbolic day for me. There are 3 things that I always will remember on this day. 1-It is the birthday of someone who I once thought of as being the very best friend anyone could ever have. Now she chooses not to even speak to me...not even to tell me why she won't speak to me anymore. I'm a little sad thinking of her today. 2-It is the anniversary of my divorce from my first husband becoming "official". Even though I try not to, I always wonder on this day "what if the divorce had never happened?" It tends to make me a little sad. 3-It is the anniversary of my mom's last round of chemo (the first time she had it). This also makes me a bit sad now because she had a re-occurance this last year and now there is a new date to celebrate for finishing her chemo.
I don't know if all of that was sub-conciously in my mind this morning as I got dressed or not, but I wore solid black today....something I never do.

Another dark, dreary monday morning. Why couldn't it just be sunny today? I had an absolutely wonderful, relaxing weekend for a change. Hubby and I went out to dinner Friday night, then did a little shopping. I got new cd's and new shoes...two of my favorite things to buy!! We slept in Saturday, then planted all our veggies in the garden. Saturday night we went to the Styx, Peter Frampton, and Nelson concert with my Dad, his wife, my sis, and her hubby. We had a great time! Peter Frampton was amazing. Styx put on a great show as usual, and Nelson was blast to watch. I just kept thinking back to when I was about 12 years old and I used to stare at my Nelson poster on the wall with thier long bleach blonde hair and bright blue eyes...those were the days! They played all 2 of thier big hits, although they informed us that they had 4 number ones. They played a couple of thier dad's (Ricky Nelson) songs in tribute to his birthday. All in all, it was a great show and we actually had beautiful weather for the show which was nice. Sunday, we had a nice leisurely day at home, then went out to dinner with my mom, grandma, sis, and her family to celebrate mother's day. It was a great weekend. My Grandma is in town for the week, staying at my mom's house. She's been feeling pretty lonely since my Grandpa passed away and she needs to be around people. So, my mom is working short days this week to hang out with her. Hopefully this will be a good thing. I could use a little less time around my mom right now. She was really driving me nuts last week! This also means I've gotta get my house cleaned up cause she is planning to bring Grandma over so she can see our house sometime this week. I really am hoping this week will be better than last week was!

I heard a Steve Miller Band song on the radio this morning, which prompted me to listen to Steve Miller all day at work today. The Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits cd is one of my all-time favorites. It always puts me in a great mood. It reminds me of so many good times from when I was younger. It reminds me of friends that I'm no longer in contact with, and a few that I still talk to occasionally. It definitely reminds me of one particular person that played a major role in my life during that time and I would like to dedicate the following song to them. There are certain people in the world that change your life. Sometimes the changes can be good, sometimes bad. But that person's memory will never fade, no matter what happens. This is for that person.
The Stake-Steve Miller Band
Burnin' burnin' all you can take
Wheels are turning in the bed you make
I'll take you over, you're tied at the stake
Nobody loves you like the way I do
Light rain's over
The sun's all around
Four leaf clover
As I pull you down
I'll take you over
You're tied at the stake
Nobody loves you like the way I do
Nobody loves you like the way I do
Nobody loves you like the way I do

After my vacation is over I'm starting to save and as soon as I have a least a month's worth of income saved, I am moving far away from my parents. I can't deal with their shit anymore. Their problems cannot be my problems anymore. I have enough problems of my own to have to deal with theirs.
new opportunity...
05.06.04 (11:28 am) [edit]
I may have a new opportunity to earn an extra $200 a month by doing a little side job. My dad's wife is a lawyer and helps put together the bar association's newsletters and notices to members. Apparently, they are looking for someone that can update their website, keep up with the member list, and send out e-mail newsletters and notices. I'm thinking I can do this for $200 bucks a month. I gotta send her my resume so she can suggest me for the job, but I think I'm pretty much in if I want it. Now I just gotta figure out what I want to do with the extra money. I'm thinking its time to get a new computer and that would be a great way to save some money up for it.

the family feud begins again...
05.05.04 (11:31 am) [edit]
It is really a shame that my family can get so catty over material things, myself included. My dad sent us all an e-mail today saying that someone gave him an offer on a loveseat that belogs to my Grandpa. He bought it when he moved into an apartment several years ago and now that he is in a nursing home, he can't use it anymore. I have told my dad over and over again that if or when he decided to get rid of it, I would gladly buy it from Grandpa. So, when I got the e-mail today I have to say I was kinda pissed. One thing you have to understand is that this is a really nice loveseat. It has barely even been used. Every single piece of furniture in my house, with the exception of the new bed we got for Christmas, is a hand-me-down. My furniture is in seriously bad shape. So, my dad basically was giving us a chance to match the price that this other person was offering....a whole $85 for an almost unused love seat. Well, of course I wrote him back immediately telling him I wanted it. Well, in the meantime, my mom also got the email and she is saying she wants it, but that since I already told him she would back off. So, she wrote him back saying that if us kids didn't end up with it that she would buy it. This does kinda piss me off cause she just bought new furnture a couple years ago when she moved into her apartment. She also started listing off all kinds of other stuff she wants. Anyway, so my dad send me another e-mail back saying that he would hold it for me....but my brother and sis haven't even gotten the e-mail yet. This stuff is such a freakin pain in the ass. I don't know why any of us are acting like this.

When I got home lastnight my husband had Styx blaring on the TV. He's getting really pumped up for the concert on Saturday. We are going to see Styx, Peter Frampton, and "special guest".....NELSON!! Woohooo! Styx is one of hubby's favorite bands and I can't wait to see Peter Frampton. It should be a great show. And, as an added bonus, it only cost us $36 (well, $54 after the added fees) for 6 tickets, so my dad and his wife, my sister, and her hubby are all going as well. It should be a great time.
Now, back to the blaring tv...the song that was playing was "Lady" which is one of hubby's favorite Styx songs. Every time he hears it, he gives me a hug and tells me how much he loves me. I guess it is kinda his song for me. Yesterday he was going on and on about how much he loves me and how he can't believe that we have been married almost 2 years already. Of course, I was just eating it up. What woman doesn't love it when her hubby gets all mushy? So, I have the song stuck in my head this morning. It puts me in a good mood for some reason! ;)
Lady-Styx
Lady, when you're with me I'm smiling
Give me all your love
Your hands build me up when I'm sinking
Touch me and my troubles all fade
Lady, from the moment I saw you
Standing all alone
You gave all the love that I needed
So shy, like a child who has grown
'Cause you're my lady of the morning
Love shines in your eyes
Sparkling, clear, and lovely
You're my lady
Lady, turns me on when I'm lonely
Give me all your charm
Evenings when she lays down beside me
She takes me gently into her arms
Lady of the morning
Love shines in your eyes
Sparkling, clear, and lovely
You're my lady

Love shines in your eyes
Sparkling, clear, and lovely
